JUDAEA [jo͞oˈdēə, jo͞oˈdāə]
DEFINITION
Answer: Judea means “land of the Jews.” The territory of Judea, formerly called Judah, began to be referred to as “Judea” only after the Babylonian captivity. Most of the Jews who returned from exile were from the tribe of Judah.
🔼The name Judea in the Bible. Judea is the name of the province of the Persian empire to where the exiled Jews repatriated. Strictly spoken, it denoted the area in southern Palestine, centered around Jerusalem and west of the river Jordan. In Hebrew or Aramaic the name Judea occurs in Daniel 2:25, 5:13, 6:13, Ezra 5:1 and 7:14 (as יהוד, Jehud).
The Biblical baby name Judea is Hebrew in origin and it's meaning is territory belonging to the tribe of Judah. Judea is pronounced ju-dae-yaw. Judea was the name given to the territory belonging to the tribe of Judah. In the Old Testament, the whole country to the west of the River Jordan was called Judea.
Judea or Judaea (Hebrew: Yehuda) is a term used for the mountainous southern part of the West Bank. In modern times, the name "Yehudah" is most often used by Zionists. Judea is also the ancient name of the area surrounding Jerusalem (today, parts of Israel and the West Bank).
