CIRCADIAN [sərˈkādēən]
As adjectives the difference between circadian and diurnal is that circadian is (biology) of, relating to, or showing rhythmic behaviour with a period of 24 hours; especially of a biological process while diurnal is happening or occurring during daylight, or primarily active during that time. a flower that opens only in the day.
Circadian rhythms include sleeping and waking in animals and flowers closing and opening. The 24-hour sleep–waking cycle is a good example of a circadian rhythm because it clearly illustrates that circadian rhythms depend on an interaction of physiological and psychological processes.
Circadian rhythms play a role in hormone production that controls sleep and wakefulness. Melatonin, the hormone that produces sleepiness, and cortisol, the hormone that produces wakefulness, are regulated by circadian rhythms. When melatonin levels are high, cortisol levels are low and vice versa.
The Circadian Rhythm Diet. Eat a protein-rich breakfast within 1 hour of waking, before drinking caffeine. Have vegetables in abundance throughout the day, and at every meal. Avoid sugars and simple/refined carbohydrates with breakfast. This is not the best time of day to have calcium, so yogurt in the morning is not ideal.
