Byzantine refers to the Roman Empire during the middle Ages. It was built around Constantinople. Constantinople was the capital of this Empire. The meaning was taken from the way the Byzantine Generals used to solve their problems. The problems in general were not complicated but the procedure to simplify them was labyrinthine.
